Jonesborough Library –

On Thursday, August 8th, The JGS will host Marianne Anderson, with a program entitled “The Memory Party” at the Washington County- Jonesborough Library, 200 Sabin Drive, Jonesborough, at 6:30 pm. This is a party celebrating our ancestors! Imagine a family party where you remember and reminisce about the members of the family who have passed on. Please bring a photo and memories of an ancestor that you would like to share. It is important that people bring a photo and be comfortable saying something at the program about the person in the photo.

Marianne “caught” the genealogy bug as a teenager living in Alexandria VA when she discovered her Philly ancestors had deep roots in Old Town Alexandria. She was fortunate in that her passion for dead people (and 40 years of research) brought her to work in Information Services as an in-house genealogist at Montclair Library in Prince William County VA. While at Montclair Library she developed, planned, and successfully performed these programs: Exploring Your Roots one on one genealogy help for 6 years (helping over 100 individuals), presenting “The Memory Party Program” at assisted living centers, senior centers, for private groups and at the library. Other programs included The Fall Family History Fair for 2 years(this was going to be an annual event, but COVID happened), 2 Children’s Genealogy programs, 2 historical author book signing talks, and a Black History Month event. Marianne spent 14 years total working in libraries in Virginia. She has completed several classes at The National Genealogical Society where she is a member, as well as 1 Master’s degree class in Introduction to Genealogical Librarianship. Currently, you can stop by and talk to Marianne when she is working as a Hostess at The Visitors Center right next door.
