We are announcing an upcoming change to our catalog system.

The Organization of Watauga Libraries (OWL), which includes Washington County Public Library, is changing its catalog and circulation system from SirsiDynix to The Library Corporation’s (TLC) Library Solution software. The new system will be available to library users beginning Wednesday, March 2nd.

We will be closed for the final data migration on Monday, February 28th, and will reopen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1st.

**Please note that patrons will not be able to place materials on Hold from Friday, February 25th through Wednesday, March 2nd. If you have questions or concerns, please contact us.**

The new catalog system is expected to offer more features and be easier to use. There will not be any effect on library patron R.E.A.D.S. e-book accounts, including the OverDrive and Libby apps.

TLC’s catalog system is mobile-friendly and includes new interactive features for users. For example, patrons will be able to add subject and genre tags to materials to help others find them. TLC also offers automatically generated recommendations related to the titles that users view.

Patrons will not need to get new library cards when the switch to TLC is made. All of their current Holds, including holds on digital materials, will be automatically transferred to the new system.

We are encouraging our patrons to call or stop by the Circulation Desk after March 1st to ensure that their account information was transferred properly to TLC.

The Organization of Watauga Libraries (OWL) is a collaborative of public libraries that serves the northeast Tennessee area of Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties. Libraries that are part of OWL share a catalog system in which users can borrow books from other member libraries.
